Year-Wise Breakdown of subjects at University of Silesia
Year 1 - Foundations of Medical Science: Your first year will lay the groundwork with essential subjects like Gross Anatomy, Neuroscience, Histology, Cell Physiology, Medical Biology, and Medical Chemistry. You'll also explore Biophysics, Embryology, the History of Medicine, and Philosophy. Practical sessions will include Nursing Care Activities, Informatics, Biostatistics, and an online Library Training course. Polish language skills are initiated at this level, and we offer Elective Subjects as well as a Summer Programme focused on Practical Patient Care.
Year 2 - Introductory Clinical Knowledge: In your second year, you'll dive deeper into essential medical sciences, exploring Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Parasitology, and Immunology. Initial introductions to Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Dentistry are also provided, along with courses on Public Health and Medical Ethics. We also provide lessons on Psychology in Medicine and continue with Basic Polish language skills.
Year 3 - Clinical Science and Diagnosis: Your third year focuses on Pathophysiology, Pathomorphology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Laboratory Diagnostics. You'll get a broader exposure to Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, along with new subjects like Clinical Genetics, Oncology, Surgery, and Psychiatry. The year also includes subjects like Epidemiology and Clinical Nutrition, with an option for Elective Subjects and a practical Summer Programme in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine.
Year 4 - Specialization in Medical Disciplines: Your fourth year will allow you to delve into specialized areas such as Pediatrics, Neonatology, various branches of Surgery (including Neuro, Cardiac, and Vascular Surgery), Anaesthesiology, Intensive Therapy, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, and Rehabilitation. You'll also be introduced to Gynaecology and Obstetrics. The Summer Elective Programme offers practical experience in Surgery and Internal Medicine.
Year 5 - Advanced Clinical Medicine: In your fifth year, you'll learn about specific areas in Internal Medicine, Infectious and Tropical Diseases, Pediatrics, various types of Surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Radiology, and Clinical Pharmacology. You'll also touch on other important areas like Forensic Medicine, Urology, Oncology, Palliative Medicine, Family Medicine, and Medical Law.
Year 6 - Integrative Medicine and Specialty Practice: The final year focuses on further specialized areas, including Thoracic Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Anaesthesiology, Intensive Therapy, Oncology, and Forensic Medicine. The curriculum also includes courses on Gerontology, Geriatrics, Palliative Medicine, Tropical Medicine, Emergency and Disasters Medicine, Rehabilitation, and Preventive Medicine.
To be eligible for the 6-year M.D. and 5.5-year Master of Pharmacy programs, candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, such as GCE A-level certificates or IB and EB diplomas. For the M.D. program, you must have completed advanced level courses in Biology and one additional subject (Chemistry , physics , or mathematics ). For the Pharmacy program, chemistry and one additional subject are required. Furthermore, all candidates must demonstrate English proficiency (CEFR B2 level) through various accepted certifications.
